After losing out on veteran receivers Derrick Mason and Malcom Floyd in free agency, the Baltimore Ravens could be setting their sights on Jerricho Cotchery. The Ravens are one of four teams interested in Cotchery, a league source told The Baltimore Sun, who is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The NFL free agency cycle is in full effect, with teams and players agreeing to terms fast as training camps open. Get the latest on all the news right here. It's believed the San Diego Chargers could also be interested, as Cotchery and quarterback Philip Rivers were college teammates at N.C. State. Their interest, however, could be tempered after re-signing Malcom Floyd, who was an offseason priority. The Ravens also lost out on retaining Mason, who announced Saturdayhe is signing with the New York Jets after six seasons in Baltimore. Cotchery, 29, was released by the Jets Thursday. Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters the team's former fourth-round pick requested to be traded or released. Cotchery, who had 41 receptions for 433 yards and two touchdowns last season, has expressed interest in the Ravens, according to The Sun. The Ravens have a void to fill after losing Mason and veteran tight end Todd Heap. Behind veteran Anquan Boldin, the team has a group of young and unproven receivers in rookie Torrey Smith, Justin Harper, Brandon Jones, James Hardy, Marcus Smith and David Reed. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who had 30 receptions in his only season with the Ravens in 2010, remains a free agent.
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Jason Snelling has returned to the Atlanta Falcons, agreeing to a one-year deal. Snelling rushed for more than 900 yards while backing up Michael Turner the last two years. Snelling, who was a restricted free agent, participated in the team's walkthrough practice on Sunday afternoon. Snelling had 324 yards rushing and two touchdowns and 44 catches for 303 yards and three TDs last season, all in a reserve role. His most productive season came in 2009, when he started two games and had 613 yards rushing. Former Falcons backup Jerious Norwood signed with the St. Louis Rams after talking with Snelling. Atlanta added running back Jacquizz Rogers in the fifth round of the draft. Rogers will compete with Snelling for playing time behind Turner. Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Plaxico Burress lined up on the practice field, ran a route and watched as a pass to him from Mark Sanchez fell incomplete. He was hoping Rex Ryan wouldn't notice. "I was trying to sneak in," the New York Jets wide receiver said with a big grin, "but me being 6-5, it didn't work out too well." Burress made his debut for the Jets in 11-on-11 team drills Sunday after being limited to being mostly a spectator since he signed a week ago. He rolled his left ankle running routes with Santonio Holmes last Wednesday, and had only been doing light work during the morning walkthroughs. For the afternoon practice, Burress was eager to get back out there after a few years away that included a 20-month stint in prison on a gun charge. "The plan was just for me to go through individuals and I stole a couple of team plays," he said, smiling. "I tried to sneak in there and Rex basically told me, `Hey, this is a good start and we don't want any setbacks.' So if they wouldn't have taken me out, I would have kept on going. It's my first time out there in a couple of years and it just felt good to kind of get back in a groove. But Rex shut me down." Burress was in uniform for Friday's afternoon practice, as he was Thursday, but mostly as a sideline spectator. After a day off Saturday, Burress was able to do a little more on the field. "I really want to go slow because he's feeling great, but if you have him go through this and there's a setback," Ryan said, "then it may cost you two weeks." Burress said he was on the field for team drills for "one or two plays" and hopes that number increases during the next few practices. The NFL free agency cycle is in full effect, with teams and players agreeing to terms fast as training camps open. Get the latest on all the news right here. "I didn't think Rex was playing attention," he said. "He kind of surprised me with how sharp he was. I just wanted to get out there. I think they all understand, my teammates, (I'm) in there getting rehab two, three, four times a day, working hard to get back on the football field because it's something I miss, I love and I just want to get back out there. They kind of have the reins a little bit, but that's cool also." Burress knew he'd give it a chance when he woke up Sunday morning and the ankle felt pretty good after an extra acupuncture session on Saturday. He's hoping to be ready in time to play in the preseason opener at Houston next Monday night. "I don't see why not," he said. "If they give me the nod to go, I'm definitely going to get out there. If anybody needs all the work that they can get, it's me. I definitely want to get out there and definitely want to get my feet wet." Burress has said he anticipates having some rust after having such a long layoff from football. He pleaded guilty in August 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub in November 2008, accepting a two-year prison term. He was released about three months early for good behavior, but will be on parole for two years. "I'm just trying to get comfortable," Burress said. "I'm anxious to get started and hopefully the next couple of days, I'll be able to put a couple of full practices together back-to-back." Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press

The duo went into the Hall of Fame together in 1983.LikePro Football Hall of Fame/Associated Press/National Football Lea Joe Montana and Ronnie LottMontana and Lott were the two mainstays of the 49ers dynasty that won four Super Bowls for San Francisco in the 1980s. Montana was the quarterback of the offense, while Lott was basically the quarterback of the defense as a safety. Montana won three Super bowl MVP awards, but Lott was just as crucial to the 49ers' success. Montana is considered by many to be the greatest quarterback in NFL history. And it figures, many consider Lott the greatest defensive back in league history. They both went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.LikeAssociated Press Larry Csonka and Jim LangerCsonka became a running back by accident, catching a love for running the football after returning a kick during a high school game. He went on to become one of the most punishing running backs in NFL history. Langer was one of the unsung heroes of the Dolphins' offensive line in the 1970s, opening the holes for Csonka, Jim Kiick and Mercury Morris. Csonka and Langer would enter the Hall of Fame in 1987.LikeNational Football League/Pro Football Hall of Fame Red Grange and Bronko NagurskiWhen George Halas needed a gate attraction, he looked no further than Red Grange who played collegiately at the University of Illinois, and whose unique running style earned him the nickname of the "Galloping Ghost." Nagurski joined the Bears in 1930 and became the personification of power football, as his straight-ahead style matched his unusual first name. It seems fitting that Grange and Nagurski would be part of the Hall of Fame's inaugural class of 1963.LikeAssociated Press/Pro Football Hall of Fame Raymond Berry and Jim ParkerBerry was a classic illustration of determination. He had to fight for a spot on his high school team, despite his dad being the coach. Berry wasn’t fast but spent hours perfecting his craft. He would encourage quarterback Johnny Unitas to throw him bad balls, just to help him practice. When Unitas refused, Berry had his wife throw the bad balls. Many thought Parker would be a dominant defensive lineman, but coach Weeb Ewbank had different ideas, putting him on the offensive line where he flourished. Berry and Parker were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1973.LikeNational Football League/Pro Football Hall of Fame Mel Blount and Terry BradshawBlount was the prototypical cornerback of his era and a major reason why the Steelers were the dominant team of the NFL in the 1970s. Bradshaw was charged with running the Steelers' offense and distributing the ball among the team's many weapons. With Blount on the offense and Bradshaw on the Steelers, Pittsburgh would go on to win four Super Bowl titles during the decade. Bradshaw was a two-time Super Bowl MVP. Blount and Bradshaw were part of the 1979 Hall of Fame class.LikeNational Football League/Associated Press Tony Dorsett and Randy WhiteDorsett was only a rookie when the Cowboys defeated the Broncos in Super Bowl XII. White was one of the co-MVPs of that game, sharing the honors with Harvey Martin. Dorsett would be a Cowboys staple well into the 1980s and finish his career as the second-leading rusher in NFL history. White was known as the "Manster" and was a longtime clog in the famed "Doomsday Defense." Dorsett and White entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994. Jackie Smith, who played the majority of his career, was a teammate of the duo in 1978 and also was inducted in 1994.LikeNational Football League/Associated Press/Pro Football Hall of F YA Tittle and Andy RobustelliTittle was a seven-time Pro Bowl and most valuable player in 1963. His playing career included stops with the Colts, 49ers and Giants. About the only thing missing was that elusive championship, having lost in three consecutive championship games from 1961-63. After five outstanding seasons in Los Angeles, the Rams dealt him to the Giants for a first-round draft pick. Robustelli performed even better in New York and is credited with molding together the 1956 Giants team that won the NFL championship. Tittle and Robustelli were elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.LikeNational Football League/Associated Press

They say that being in the Hall of Fame means you're part of "pro football's greatest team." Of course, many of these all-time greats were teammates when they played. Did you know, for instance, that Richard Dent and Deion Sanders were teammates when they won a Super Bowl with the 49ers during the 1994 season? Dent also played with Marshall Faulk during a short stint with the Colts. Some Hall of Fame teammates are more obvious than that. Here are a few that formed a bond in their playing days that has lasted well beyond their inductions. Bart Starr and Forrest GreggStarr and Gregg joined the Packers as rookies in 1956 and played together until 1970 when the offensive lineman retired in 1970 (Starr retired after the following season). The duo went on to win five championships with the Packers, including the first two Super Bowls, for which Starr was selected as the game's most valuable player in both contests. The two even became head coaches for the Packers, with Gregg replacing Starr after the 1983 season. Both were enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.LikeNational Football League/Associated Press Jack Lambert and Franco HarrisLambert was once told that he was too small to play in the NFL but went on to become one of the game's most intimidating linebackers. Some thought that choosing Harris over Lydell Mitchell was a mistake, but Harris went on to have one of the most prolific careers for a running back in NFL history. Together they would be a part of a Steelers dynasty that won four Super Bowls during the 1970s. The duo went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.LikeNational Football League Jackie Slater and Jack YoungbloodSlater started his career with the Rams in 1976 and would play 20 seasons for the organization, spanning four stadiums and three cities. Slater was a teammate of Youngblood early in his career, and both played in Super Bowl XIV, as the Rams were foiled in their upset bid of the famed Steelers. Youngblood famously played that game with a broken leg. Both were added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001, a quick turnaround for Slater, but a somewhat long wait for Youngblood.LikeAssociated Press/National Football League Darrell Green and Art MonkGreen and Monk are two of the most beloved players in Redskins history, and for good reason, helping the Redskins win three Super Bowl titles during the 1980s and early 1990s. Green was one of the fastest players in NFL history, an intimidating cornerback. Monk was one of the most consistent receivers in NFL history. Both were enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.LikeNational Football League/Associated Press Bobby Mitchell and Sonny JurgensenVince Lombardi once said that Jergensen was the best quarterback in NFL history. Jurgensen excelled in an era that favored defenses prior to the 1978 rules changes, leading the NFL in passing five times. Mitchell was an outstanding player for the Browns in his early days, but he flourished when teamed with Jurgensen in 1962. Mitchell set a career best with 1,384 receiving yards in 1962, and topped it with 1,436 receiving yards in 1963.

UpdatedAug 4, 2011 3:14 AM ETMETAIRIE, La. (AP)Top draft pick Cam Jordan has already been put to the test byNew Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.Williams routinely talks of his preference for players who canhandle multiple roles, and on Wednesday, he finally got his firstchance to see what the 6-foot-4, 287-pound Jordan can do againstNFL competition at defensive end and defensive tackle. At the very least, Williams seemed impressed by Jordan'sphysical presence and raw ability.''I'm real happy he's here and he is one of those guys who justmakes us look different,'' Williams said of Jordan, who signed hisrookie contract on Tuesday after missing the first five days oftraining camp. ''Now he has to quickly adapt to the style of ourplay.''Jordan will have more to adapt to than Williams' coachingstyle. He was raised in Chandler, Ariz., and played in college atCalifornia. Neither place has near the humidity that New Orleansexperiences during the summer months, and Jordan struggled withit.''It's one thing just jogging around the little park by ZephyrStadium, running around that track a couple of times, getting acouple of short sprints in,'' Jordan said. ''Putting on pads, itmakes it a little hot on the inside.''A four-year letterman at Cal, Jordan started 33 games and posted175 tackles and 16 1/2 sacks. He recorded 34 tackles for a loss, forced four fumbles, recovered four fumbles and had aninterception. He could be called upon to help immediately.Saints coach Sean Payton said the team is preparing to start theseason without top defensive end Will Smith, who could be serving afour-game suspension for violating the NFL's banned substancepolicy in 2008.The Saints have defensive ends Alex Brown, Turk McBride andJunior Galette under contract, as well.Because Jordan got a late start to training camp, he knows hehas to catch up quickly - humidity or not - to his teammates, whohave been learning since the lockout ended. Not too long after signing his four-year, $7.7 million contract,Jordan was texting and calling Williams, trying to learn as much ashe could before getting onto the field Wednesday.Still, he was only so prepared for the constant barrage of quipsand yelling that come from Williams' mouth.Questioned about whether his father, former NFL tight end SteveJordan, gave him any advice before camp started, the younger Jordanlaughed.''I'm going in green behind the ears,'' Jordan said. ''You knowhow you're about to learn how to swim so you take a step in andthen you take a step out. Then you take waist in, come out. Thenyou go shoulders deep and then you start learning how to paddle? Igot thrown in.''For Williams, the question is how quickly will Jordan pick upthe defense.''He's smart enough to do a bunch of things,'' said Williams, who will play Jordan at end, tackle and in a hybrid end-linebackerposition. ''He just has to get over the information overload in areal quick time.''And we'll find out how good of an education he got at theUniversity of California.''Notes: Payton said the Saints have signed offensive tackles AlexBarron and George Foster. Both are former first-round draft picks.Kicker Jacob Rogers, defensive back Josh Gatlin and guard CarlJohnson were waived, and linebacker Jeremiha Hunter (rightAchilles') was placed on injured reserve.
